This is a color piece I did for a children’s book I’ve been illustrating. I’ve been working on this project for over a year now and I’ve posted pieces from it before this. This is one of the pieces from this project with which I’ve been most satisfied. To be perfectly candid, when I was brought on board for this job, the author already had commissioned an earlier version of this one. Since I was now illustrating the rest of the book, I redid it so it would match the other illustrations I was preparing for the book. The original piece had a lot of nice elements going for it that both the author and I were happy with so I brought them into this version. The overall design with the border and the inset close-ups were from the original piece. The original piece was also a horizontal composition which I reworked into this vertical version.
I did the pencilling, the inking and the coloring. I used a combination of Copic and Chartpak markers for the coloring.
