It’s 2018 and the 2018 comic book convention season is right around the corner. Nothing has been posted yet but my Die Kitty Die co-collaborator, Dan Parent, and I are down for a few of our favorite shows already. I’ll certainly be posting these stops on my Events page as we get closer to them.
In the meantime, I need to refill the gaps left in my portfolio from the 2017 convention season… especially my poor picked-through marker portfolio where I keep marker sketches of different characters like the Archie & Betty piece posted here. I actually started this one a while ago. My idea was a simple visual gag featuring Archie and Betty in the style of a vintage Archie cover as drawn by my personal favorite Archie artist… and I say that with all due respect to Dan DeCarlo and Stan Goldberg both of whom were friends of mine… Harry Lucey.
I finished adding colors to this one using a combination of Copic markers and Charpak markers. The background wash is Charpak’s frost blue marker. I’m not crazy about the way it scanned. It seems too light and washed out. Take my word for it. On the original, its a much stronger framing device. This piece, like all the ones in my marker portfolio is on 9″ x 12″ bristol paper.
I’m hoping to add a few more like this to my portfolio before my first convention in March. What would you like to see me add to my portfolio? Please let me know in the comments below!
Thanks, Everybody!
