ARCHIE LOVES GRUNDY!
I posted this sketch on Facebook a couple of weeks ago and it certainly received a fiery reaction! I drew this one last month at the Niagara Falls Comic Con as a lark. The idea of course was inspired by one of the reported plotlines of the upcoming Archie-based TV pilot “Riverdale,” which will
Sam Hill
Here is a full tone pencil commission of the Archie Comics private eye, Sam Hill, and his secretary, Moxy, in Sam’s office. Dating back to Archie Comics’ MLJ days, Sam was your standard private eye character in that Sam Spade mold that was popular in the 1940’s. I first drew Sam in a two-part
DIE KITTY DIE sketch cards!
Here are a few of the DIE KITTY DIE sketch cards we’re drawing as rewards for some of our Kickstarter supporters. I always enjoy drawing sketch cards. I hope you dig these. We’re currently getting together all of the Die Kitty Die goodies that we promised during our campaign. We should have our books
The Incredible Hulk!
The early Hulk of the 1960’s as drawn by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko was always my favorite Hulk. The square head, the heavy brow, the beady eyes and nose. The big mouth full of jagged, crooked teeth, the thick fingers and toes are all necessary elements of the Green Goliath!
VERONICA LODGE… Rebooted!
Here is a quick sketch of Veronica Lodge I penciled a long time ago. I just rediscovered it and since I had my inking pens and my markers out, I decided to finish her. Plus, these days Archie Comics seems to cringe whenever I post anything so this gives them something more to read and
MARY MARVEL… SHAZAM!
Here is a 9″ x 12″ color sketch of MARY MARVEL! The Kickstarter rewards have begun! Now that Dan Parent and I have completed ALL work on DIE KITTY DIE itself, we have to turn our attention to all the sketches and commissions we promised our good and loyal backers throughout our
Betty & Veronica as Captain Marvel & Spider-Woman
Here is a private commission featuring Archie Comics’ Betty & Veronica as Marvel Comics’ Captain Marvel and Spider-Woman. The colors are all Copic markers except for the light blue background which was one of my Charpak markers. These sort of mash-ups are easily the most popular requests I get for commissions and sketches especially
Jughead & Archie Digest #21 cover art
Here is my art for the cover to JUGHEAD & ARCHIE #21. I drew the pencils. The inks are by the legendary Bob Smith. This is the inked version of the cover as I originally handed it in. On my last day at the Archie offices, editor co-president (whatever his title is these days)
2016 Outstanding Instructor Award — Fernando Ruiz
At this year’s Kubert School graduation ceremony, I was honored with the award for Outstanding Instructor. I am very grateful for this recognition. I owe a lot of people for helping me earn this very nice honor including my students, my colleagues, and the staff and administration at the Kubert School. If I’m any
The LEGION of SUPER-PETS
Here is a private commission ordered by my good friends Billy D’Etorre and his wife Susan D’Etorre. As a life long fan of the whole Legion of Super-Heroes mythology and especially of Krypto the Superdog, this was a fun piece to work on. Thanks to Susan for scanning this one for me!
