This piece is a full color private commission featuring Archie characters as they appear on the popular CW TV show, Riverdale. The original measures 10″ x 15″ and is colored exclusively with Copic markers.
Riverdale, now in its second season, is unquestioningly popular and it is easily one of the things I’m asked about the most at conventions. Just to head the inevitable question off at the pass, I don’t really watch the show so I don’t really have much of an opinion on it. I did google the heck out of it just to get enough visual reference to be able to do this piece but that’s as far as my familiarity with it goes. That being said, I’m certainly not opposed to Riverdale-themed commissions. I may even stock my portfolio with a piece or two just to appeal to those many Riverdale fans.
What do you think? What are your ideas for Riverdale-based sketches? Are their characters I should be focusing on? Popular recurring themes? This piece below is still in my portfolio and has proven to be a popular traffic-stopper at conventions:
Regular Riverdale watchers get it immediately and appreciate the gag. The non-Riverdale audience may not recognize the satire but they’re still disturbed by the imagery enough that they have to stop and look!
